Waterproofing is crucial for the construction of distributed rooftop photovoltaic (PV) systems, primarily for the following three reasons:

While omitting waterproofing measures might accelerate short-term returns, the long operational life of the station means any interruption for repairs due to leaks will negatively impact long-term investment returns.
③ Rooftop PV Installation Can Affect the Original Waterproofing Layer. Current PV bracket installation techniques are predominantly penetration-based, which can damage the original waterproofing layer. Improper handling of penetration points can lead to leaks. For metal roofs, the installation process may loosen seams, also causing leakage. For factory buildings, which are currently the primary application for rooftop PV, severe leaks can force business operations to halt, resulting in economic losses. Therefore, factory owners typically place greater emphasis on waterproofing.
